He American film and theater actor, director, screenwriter. He became famous for his role as Superman in the 1978 film of the same name, and later starred in several sequels. Since 1995, he was paralyzed below the shoulders, on October 10, 2004, he died as a result of a heart attack.

He came to this world on September 25, 1952. His birthplace is New York City, United States. His father’s name is Franklin D’Olier  Reeve and his mother’s name is Barbara Johnson. The actor’s mother worked for a local newspaper for many years, and his father was a professor at the University of Connecticut, where he taught literature. In 1953, a second child appeared in the family – Christopher’s younger brother Benjamin Reeve.


His’s parents divorced in 1956. Then Barbara Johnson came to Princeton, New Jersey with Christopher and her younger son. He did his schooling from Nassau Street School and Princeton Country Day School. Which later became co-educational with Miss Fine School for Girls. After some time in 1959 , Franklin married Barbara again. His’s career As a child, Christopher was fond of sports: he played football, baseball, tennis and hockey. At the age of 15, he began acting on the stage of the Williamstown Theater Festival and decided to devote himself to the acting profession. In 1970, he  graduated from high school. By this time, he already had some acting experience, but on the advice of his mother, he decided to go to college and chose Cornell primarily, located near New York. He joined the local theater company and continued to play in the theater in parallel with his studies.


In the early 70s, he began acting in films. He appeared in cameo roles in several films, and in 1978 got his first major role. Later, he starred in three sequels to “Superman”, and in the last of them he acted as one of the writers. At the same time, the actor tried not to limit himself to one role. He appeared in dramatic characters in the films “Bostonians”, “Anna Karenina” and “The Street Rascal”, and also played in the comedies “Death Trap”, “Without Excessive Noise”, “Switching Channels”. He has also worked on numerous documentaries and popular science programs.

Illness & Death

In 1995, the actor fell from a horse during a horse race. He broke his cervical vertebrae and, as a result of the injury, was completely paralyzed below the neck. With the help of a complex operation, doctors saved his’s life, but could not return him to the ability to move. The actor could not breathe on his own, the contraction of the respiratory muscles caused the built-in electrostimulator, and he could speak only with the help of the apparatus inserted into the trachea. Despite his injuries, he continued to work in film and television, participated in social activities and opened a center to train the paralyzed in the skills of independent living.

Christopher has five brothers and three sisters. His brother’s name is Benjamin Reeve, Brock Reeve, Jeff Johnson, Mark Reeve and Kevin Johnson. His sister’s name is Alya Reeve, Margaret Staloff and Katharine O’Connell. Christopher’s great-grandfather’s name is Franklin D’Olier and the great-grandfather’s name is Mahlon Pitney. The Christopher D’Olier Reeve  had a long relationship with Guy Axton, from this union two children were born: Matthew (b. 1979) and Alexandra (b. 1983). In April 1992, Christopher married Dana Morosini, an actress, singer and TV presenter. In 1992, William Elliot Reeve was born.
