Fabio Jakobsen, who takes his first name from Fabio Casartelli, started cycling at the age of ten or eleven at the Jan van Arckel club. After recording thirteen victories in his second year in the junior category, Fabio Jakobsen joined the SEG Racing continental team in 2015 [4], where he was coached by Peter Schep. Vice-champion of the Netherlands on road hopefuls that year, he won the title for the first time in 2016, then again in 2017. During this third season at SEG Racing, he also won the Ster van Zwolle, the Grand Prix of Frankfurt hopes, the Tour of North Holland, stages of the Tour of Normandy, the Tour Alsace, the Olympia’s Tour and, with the team of the Netherlands hopes, the Tour de l’Avenir. His results during the year earned him the Gerrie Knetemann Trofee rewarding the Dutch hopeful cyclist of the year and being recruited by Quick-Step Floors, a World Tour team which signed him for two years.

In the youth he quickly notices that he is doing well in racing and in 2014 he finished fourth in the International Juniors Three Days. Less than a year later he makes the switch to the U23 and from that moment on he has been racing in the shirt of SEG Racing. In the following years, Jakobsen did good business as a promising rider. In 2016 he became Dutch champion U23, he won the KOGA Battle of Norg and he also won a stage in the ZLM Tour. In 2017, Jakobsen comes on the radar of major teams with 8 wins in one season. Not only does he take stage victories in the Olympia’s Tour, the Tour de l’Avenir and the Tour de Normandie, he also wins the Dutch National Championships for promises for the second year in a row. In addition, he crossed the line as the winner in the professional round of North Holland and managed to win the U23 variant of Eschborn-Frankfurt.

Fabio Jakobsen BioGraphy , Fabio Jakobsen made his professional debut in 2018 with Quick Step at the Dubai Tour at the service of Elia Viviani, winner of the race, then at the Tour of Oman. He then won two Belgian semi-classics in the sprint: Nokere Koerse and the Grand Prix de l’Escaut. In the second half of the year, he finished sixth in the first edition of the Great War Remembrance Race, a new cycling race contested in Belgium and tenth in the Bretagne Classic. In 2019, he participated in the Tour of Spain, his first grand tour. He won the 4th and 21st stages there, beating Sam Bennett each time.

On August 5, 2020, during the sprint of arrival of the first stage of the Tour of Poland in Katowice, sprint disputed at very high speed in a false downhill flat, Fabio Jakobsen is voluntarily packed by his competitor and compatriot of the Jumbo-Visma formation Dylan Groenewegen as he came back to his height as the two sprinters shifted to the right. Fabio was about to pass Dylan on the right and crashed severely into the barriers one meter from the finish line, hitting a race judge and the rigid finish gantry at full speed; victim of a head trauma and a fracture of the palate, he is plunged into an artificial coma and his vital prognosis is engaged. Groenewegen, who first won the stage, is disqualified and then excluded from the event. On August 7, after a five-hour operation, Fabio came out of his artificial coma. The continuation of his career as a professional runner is not certain, in particular because of the paralysis of one of his vocal cords.

On April 11, 2021, Jakobsen made his return to competition during the Tour of Turkey, a month before the end of the suspension of Dylan Groenewegen who returned to competition in May on the Tour of Italy. On the following July 21, he sprinted the second stage of the Tour de Wallonie, the first victory since his accident. He also won the fifth and final stage of this race. On August 17, 2021, he sprinted the fourth stage of the Tour of Spain.
