Isabell Werth was born in Issum in 1969 and grew up on her parents’ farm in Rheinberg. Through her agricultural life, Isabelle Werth had contact with horses very early on. She competed in her first small tournaments with her pony Funny. She attended grammar school and graduated from the Amplonius grammar school in Rheinberg. In her free time she devotes herself to jumping and eventing.

Isabell Werth Career

After 14 years of close cooperation, Isabell Werth and Dr. Schulten-Bauer. Werth temporarily moved her horses to Madeleine Winter-Schulze’s facility. She stayed in this stable for two years and finally moved back to Rheinberg. There she founded her own training stable with 22 boxes in 2004. With her own stable, she also decided to take up horse riding professionally.

Isabell Wert suffered a sad blow when her young horse Amaretto died of colic. After the end of Gigolo’s sporting career, Werth was initially unable to keep himself at the forefront of international dressage. This only changed again with the two horses Why Not FRH and Satchmo. At the European Championships in Aachen 2006, Werth actually wanted to start with Why not (nickname Hannes). However, this represented itself in training a few days earlier. The brown Hanoverian gelding Satchmo moved up. Isabell Werth said about this successful horse that she had taught her humility. Satchmo could inspire and fascinate on some days, on other days she blocked completely.

Isabell Werth Horses and Achievements

In the last few years Isabell Werth has been successful on various horses. This shows her great talent as a trainer. In 2013 she was part of the German dressage team with Don Johnson and contributed to their victory. In the Grand Prix, Werth had, however, mistakes in the piaffe and the single changes and thus slipped out of the placement. At the World Equestrian Games in 2014, she started with Bella Rose and won gold with the team. This was her seventh world championship victory and Werth overtook record holder Rainer Klimke. Since several horses were canceled due to illness, Werth decided to use Weihegold OLD for the Olympic qualification. She had already gained experience with the mare in the Grand Prix Freestyle in Amsterdam and the Grand Prix Special in Balve. As part of the CHIO Aachen, Isabell Werth was nominated with Weihegold OLD for the Olympic Games in Rio 2016. At the Olympic Games, Werth won the gold medal with the team and the silver medal in the individual standings. With the 10 Olympic medals now, Werth is the record holder as the most successful rider at the Olympic Games. In the World Cup season 16/17 Isabell Wert rode very successfully and was able to record victories with Don Johnson FRH, Weihegold OLD and Emilio.
