She was born on May 16, 1966 in Gary, Indiana. She became the youngest of nine children of the famous Jackson family – Joseph Walter and Catherine Esther, who were followers of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Shortly after Janet was born, her older brothers formed the Jackson 5 music group. The Jackson girls lived in Indiana with their mother, while their father tried to “promote” his sons in Los Angeles.As soon as Janet grew up a little, she also moved to Los Angeles.
