He appeared on the HBO drama series The Wire and Albert “Chucky” White on the HBO series Boardwalk Empire, playing Omar Little. He starred as Jack G, husband of Bessie Smith, in the HBO telefilm biopic Bessie. For which he got a lot of applause from the audience. He starred in supporting roles in several television series and films such as The Night Of, 12 Years a Slave, Hap and Leonard, Gone Baby Gone, The Road, When They See Us, Inherent Vice and When We Rise.

He did the first job of his career as a temp for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals. Inspired by Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814,  he dropped out of school and left his job to chase a career as a dancer. He had been homeless for a year. He also ran record labels and dance studios in search of work.He worked as a background dancer with singer Kim Sims. And later he had more work with artists like George Michael and Madonna, as well as some modeling work. He choreographed Crystal Waters’ single “100% Pure Love” in 1994. He had a large scar on his face that became his signature feature. He offered to perform as a thug in the resulting music video. He also did modeling with famous photographers like David La Chapelle. His first film in his career was Bullet in 1996, in which he played the henchman of Shakoor’s drug kingpin Tank. He served as the American Civil Liberties Union celebrity ambassador for the Campaign for Smart Justice.

He was found dead on September 6, 2021 at his Williamsburg, Brooklyn penthouse. The cause of his death is yet to be known.
