Taekwondo fighter Milica Mandic became the first Serbian athlete to win two gold medals at the Olympic Games – in London in 2012 and in Tokyo in 2021. Nine years ago, Mandic brought Serbia its first Olympic gold since independence, and in Tokyo it managed to become the first with two of the brightest medals. Also, Mandic is the only taekwondo fighter, along with the Chinese Chen Zhong (2000, 2004), with two gold medals in the over 67 kg category.The Serbian taekwondo fighter defeated the South Korean Dabin Kor Lee in the grand final of the Games in Japan, and she came to the triumph after a dramatic finish in which she broke the resistance of her rival with two blows.

Qualification

She was raised along with her sister in Belgrade, SR Serbia, SFR Yugoslavia. She did her schooling from an elementary school in Belgrade, SR Serbia. For her further studies, she enrolled at Megatrend University and in 2016 she did a degree in Faculty of Culture and Media.

Career

When she started her career, she competed in the middleweight category (under 73 kg) to win a bronze medal at the 2011 World Taekwondo Championships, winning a silver medal at the 2012 European Taekwondo Championships the following year. She became the first gold medalist for independent Serbia at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England, United Kingdom, losing 9–7 to Anne-Caroline Graf of France.She was then eliminated in the quarterfinals by the British’s Bianca Walkden at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In the 2017 World Taekwondo Championships held in Muju, South Korea, she won the gold medal by defeating South Korean Oh Hye-ri. And then in 2020 she made an announcement that she would retire after the 2020 Summer Olympics.In the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, she won the gold medal by defeating South Korean Lee Da-bin.

Hall Of Fame

She won the gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and with it her result was the highest result in the field. And that’s why she was inducted into the Taekwondo Hall of Fame in 2013 at a ceremony in Las Vegas, with Milica and her trainer Dragan Jovic. She was selected because of her great contribution to the Taekwondo game in Serbia.

Serbian taekwondo fighter she won a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo on Tuesday, July 27. She defeated Dabin Lee from South Korea in the final with 10: 7. Serbia now has three medals in Tokyo. Previously, Damir Mikec won a silver medal in archery, while Tijana Bogdanović took a bronze medal in taekwondo. She already has an Olympic medal, a gold one, from the Games in London in 2012. The Minister of Youth and Sports of Serbia, Vanja Udovicic, sent a congratulatory message to the Serbian athlete via his Instagram profile.
