On April 2, 1975, he was born on the island of Jamaica. Then no one could have thought that he would become a world famous bodybuilder. As a child,Shawn was thin and loved to play football.Throughout his childhood, he chased the ball with his peers. But at the age of 17, his life changed dramatically thanks to a meeting with former Mr. Universe John Scharmburger. After this fateful meeting, Shawn realized that he has great potential and is able to make his body one of the best in the world. Already five years later, Shawn wins many competitions. He has more than ten victories to his credit, including a victory at the prestigious Tournament of Champions. Two years later (in June 1999) he climbed to the podium in the light heavyweight division in the Jantana Classik, and also won bronze at the Mr. Universe in the light heavyweight category.

Legal Trouble

However, in life nothing happens simply. He will have to go through many trials. In 1993,Shawn had an accident and injured a tendon in his right arm. After that, the doctors made a disappointing diagnosis, which put an end to the athlete’s sports career. But Shawn did not confront the doctors and decided to prove the opposite. And after fourteen months he snatches victory at the championship in New Jersey. Everything seemed to be back on track, but in the beginning of 1996, Shawn is injured, as a result of which the bodybuilder seriously injures his back. As a result of this incident, he takes a break from his sports career for a year. Since January 1, 1997, the athlete resumes his training. His determination, perseverance and tenacity does not go unrequited. On April 26, 1997, Shawn again enters the stage of the bodybuilding championship. The result in New Jersey was stunning. Shawn surpassed all the expectations of skeptics – he took a well-deserved second place and returns to the world of sports.

Health Issue

In 1990, the Jamaican athlete moves to live in the United States and becomes a citizen of this country. This provided an opportunity to compete with more trained athletes. This proves once again the fact that bodybuilder never looked for easy ways to achieve his goal. In 2002,bodybuilder learns about his father’s terrible illness and interrupts preparations for the next championship. All the time he is with his father. A year later, in the fight against lung cancer, the disease takes away the athlete’s father. After that, bodybuilder was devastated, his father was an inspiration to him. The father was proud and admired by his son and always supported him in competitions. This event left an indelible mark on Rhoden.

However, six years later,  Roden returns to the gym and to his hobby. That was not easy. Live on a schedule again and subject yourself to grueling workouts. But he oversteps all this and in 2011 he made his debut at the Mr. Olympia tournament, where he takes 11th place. After this performance, many experts were sure that this was his first and last performance not in a competition of this level, however, bodybuilder managed to surprise everyone by preparing an excellent form for Olympia 2012. In September, he was able to squeeze such “bodybuilding bison” as Dexter Jackson and Branch Warren , taking third place, and at the tournament in Madrid (Arnold Classic Europe) he had no equal. Now, few people doubt that bodybuilder will be able to pick up the Eugene Sandov statuette in 2013.
